A Photographic Essay by Patricia Katchur
My artwork is grounded in emotional responses - a cocktail of quiet moments, passage of time, and sometimes straight-out documentations that embody a strange surrealness. I’m an observationist that ponders the feeling of light, ambient sounds, the meaning of words or movement while filled with inner-thought questions of why, how, and where? Creating is an out-of-body experience that forms in my gut and mind.
As one who observes, I take note of the world around me and reinterpret via the camera lens. The “American Southwest” series captures the impact of change to our desert lands and cityscapes while expressing the essence of time passages and cultural shifting. A 25+ year project that shares a visual timeline of what was as it reforms into what is and will be. Our cities, lives and landscapes are always in flux. As an artist - I create a documentation of reality metamorphosized by the artist’s eye.
